Buchanan VRS and Botetourt County Officials Discuss Improvements to EMS Services

3/1/2010

Fincastle -- In response to concerns about declining response capability, County officials recently met with the Buchanan Volunteer Rescue Squad to discuss plans for improving the service. As a result, County officials and squad leaders will meet with representatives of the Virginia Office of EMS and the Western Virginia EMS Council to discuss options, which include placing Buchanan EMS responders under the County's EMS license.

In the interim, Botetourt County has activated supplementary measures to maximize available EMS response to the Buchanan area.  These include immediate dispatch of mutual aid (both volunteer and career) to calls in the Buchanan area and assistance from Buchanan Volunteer Fire Department responders.

Further measures may be considered, pending feasibility of options explored by County officials and the Virginia Office of EMS, which provides oversight of all EMS operations in the Commonwealth.
