The mission of the Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is to provide professionally managed, safe and healthy recreational programs tailored to the needs of the community. These services are offered to enrich the quality of life for all citizens, and to encourage long-term lifestyle pursuits to all participants.

Booster Clubs

There are 7 booster clubs in Botetourt County, geographically located within the County school districts. The booster clubs, comprised of volunteers, help with player sign-ups, form teams according to Botetourt County Draft Procedures and locate coaches for each sport with the exception of football and cheerleading. Typically a child will play for the club corresponding to the elementary school he or she would attend. Please contact this season's booster club person(s) for dates and locations of sign-ups.

Coaches

  • Rosters Can Now Be Completed Online

All youth sport rosters can now be completed and submitted online to the Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department with the click of a button. Complete your Youth Roster now.

  • Coaches' Background Screenings

Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism is committed to providing a safe environment for the children in our sports programs. We do this by conducting background screenings on all volunteers who coach in our programs.

  •  PAYS - Parents Association For Youth Sports

    The PAYS program encourages good sportsmanship, positive participation and keeping youth sports in its proper perspective. The PAYS approach is a combination of education, motivation and positive reinforcement that are essential to making the child's experience a positive one to remember. Parents are required to watch this video and pay the annual $6.00 membership fee before his/her child will be allowed to play recreational sports in Botetourt County. Certifications are available online at www.nays.org (use ID# 1142)

     

  •  NYSCA- National Youth Sport Coaches Association

The NYSCA volunteer coaches training program is designed to inform coaches of their responsibilities while working with youth athletic teams. Topics covered within the training include, the emotional and physical well being of players, teaching fairplay and good sportsmanship, coaching techniques for appropriate age groups and offering well-organized and fun practices. Coaches are required to attend a training session and pay the annual $25 membership fee before he/she will be allowed to coach a youth sports team in Botetourt County. Certifications are available online at www.nays.org

 

  •   NYSOA- National Youth Sports Officials Association

The NYSOA youth sport officials training program is designed to train officials with the proper skills needed while working with youth athletic teams. Topics covered within the training include, how to apply rules fairly to all participants and encouraging good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support to players, coaches, fellow officials and league administrators. Officials are required to attend a training session and pay the annual $25 membership fee before he/she will be allowed to officiate a youth sports game in Botetourt County. Certifications are available online at www.nays.org

Fpo Did You Know

Early travelers (mostly Scots-Irish and then Germans) following the Great Road, settled in the fertile valleys and hills. Their descendants still live in the County. The county seat of Fincastle was established in 1772 along a crossroad of the Great Road.
